Months of the Year

Post by paullecorde, 26.10.2008, 13:34:

januario - January
februario - February
martio - March
april - April
maio - May
junio - June
julio - July
augusto - August
septembre - September
octobre - October
novembre - November
decembre - December

Dates in Interlingua are written the dd/mm/yyyy format.
2/12/1988 would mean 2 decembre 1988 NOT februario 12, 1988.
For English speakers, remember that the names of the months
are not capitalized in Interlingua (except at the beginning
of a sentence, etc.).

Stress

Post by paullecorde, 26.10.2008, 13:29:

Stress in usually on the vowel before the last consonant.
amar (ah-MAHR)
mundial (moon-dee-AHL)
actualitate (ahk-too-ah-lee-TAH-teh)
lectura (lehk-TOO-rah)

If the final 2 letters are vowels, then the next to last vowel is accented.
io = EE-oh
flue = FLOO-eh
die = DEE-eh

The accent does not change when the -s of the plural is added.

If the word ends in any of the following, then stress is on
the second vowel prior to the last consonant.
le, ne, re as in facile (FAH-see-leh), nomine (NOH-mee-neh), tempore (TEHM-po-reh)
ic, ica, ico as in technic (TEHK-neek), technica (TEHK-nee-kah), technico (TEHK-nee-koh)
ide, ido as in timide (TEE-mee-deh), acido (AH-see-doh)
ula, ulo as in regula (REH-goo-lah) , angulo (AHN-goo-loh)
ime, imo as in ultime (OOL-tee-meh)

Irregular accents are shown in the IED.
philologia (-ía) = {n} philology
gratis (grá-) [L] = {adv} gratis, free (of charge)
